Jeff Gusky

Jeff Gusky is a National Geographic Photographer, Emergency Physician, Explorer and Television Host.

Jeff’s career as an explorer and artist began in 1995 on a bleak winter day at a former Nazi concentration camp in Poland. On a hunch, he climbed a distant hillside in knee deep snow. At the top, he discovered an abandoned Nazi-era compound: a building with prison bars over the windows and ovens with traces of ashes still present. In the dim light and silence of this place, Jeff experienced a strong sense that unspeakable acts of horror had occurred here. Guided by intuition, he began to photograph what he felt… the same method he uses today.

Since that day, he’s been on a quest to understand how modern life dehumanizes us and where strength lies as we confront global terrorism. Modern life addicts us and isolates us from real human connections. Our humanness is critical to our ability to prevail over terrorism and keep life civilized and safe.

What keeps societies safe against terrorism also keep companies competitive in the global marketplace. Business leaders require new critical thinking skills about how modern life dehumanizes their workforces. A human-centered workplace is key to innovation, employee loyalty and great customer service.

Jeff believes that we now face a “Human Emergency”. His goal is to inspire belief in a future where humanness is at the center of everything modern. Business leaders must learn to see past what’s modern to what’s human. “Seeing Human Is Being Human”.

Jeff’s photography has been on Broadway and exhibited across America and France. A current 18 month exhibition is now on display at The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., the world’s most visited museum

Jeff’s work has been featured in National Geographic Magazine, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The BBC, Reuters, Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, The Sydney Morning Herald, Arte, ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, PBS, NPR, The Japan Times, The Huffington Post, USA Today, US News & World Report, The CBC and The Daily Mail.

Jeff is a television producer and the author of three books. With his production partner Lone Wolf Media, he produced ‘Americans Underground: Secret City of World War I’ which premiered on the Smithsonian Channel in March 2017. Jeff is also an assignment photographer for The New York Times.

Jeff graduated near the top of his class at one of America’s top ten medical schools, The University of Washington School of Medicine. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the National Honor Medical Society and a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
